Helpful Tips for Overcoming Your Fears and Attending Your First Chamber Event

Stepping outside of your comfort zone has real payoffs!

It's no secret that taking risks can be a powerful catalyst for personal growth and development. That statement rings is true for most big moments in your business, and joining in on a networking event with the chamber is no exception. The thought of putting your business out there can be a daunting and uncomfortable. You are the master of your field and your business, but bragging about yourself to others may not be a comfortable task. To help you get prepared for a positive first networking event with the Eagle Chamber of Commerce, here are some additional tips to keep in mind:

  • Embrace uncertainty. Recognize that taking risks inherently means stepping into the unknown whether that means new people, new places or new experiences! Rather than letting this scare you, try to embrace the excitement of exploring new horizons. Maybe you've gone to a luncheon before, but haven't had a chance to attend a ribbon cutting/ grand opening...don't let the unknow stop you for networking in a new way.
  • Learn from your failures. While nobody likes to stumble, it's important to remember that you're human! What your connections are more concerned about is that you are be real with who you are and what your business is about. Stumbling on your words  or making a comment and feeling silly after is not the end of the road. Use what you feel is a setbacks as an opportunity to learn and grow, and approach your next interaction with fresh perspective!
  • Be patient with yourself. It's easy to get discouraged when events don't go as planned, or relationships are built as fast as you expect. However, it's important to remember that growth takes time. Celebrate small victories along the way and don't be too hard on yourself when things don't go as planned!
  • Seek out challenges. The more you challenge yourself, the more you'll grow. Seek out new opportunities that push you out of your comfort zone, whether it's trying to speak to 5 new connections at each event or making a point to get coffee with a connection you made at the last event!
One of our favorite things at the chamber is warm introductions. Getting integrated with the chamber family doesn't have to be scary! We have a team of people who can't wait to welcome you. One of those groups is our Ambassador team! Our Ambassadors are here to make the your chamber experience a positive one. They are friendly faces in the crowd even in the newest of situations.

By keeping our tips & ambassadors in mind and pushing yourself to take risks, you'll be amazed at how much you can achieve with your chamber membership. Remember, the only limits that exist are the ones you set for yourself. So go out there and take on the world!
